Celebrated Broadcaster Bob Costas Returns to NBC Sports for Sunday Night Baseball

In a significant announcement on Thursday, NBC Sports confirmed the return of legendary sportscaster Bob Costas to their ranks. Costas, who concluded his play-by-play responsibilities with TBS at the end of the 2024 postseason, will now helm the Sunday Night Baseball pregame show on NBC and its streaming platform, Peacock. This homecoming marks a notable moment in his storied career.

Prior to his latest role, Costas remained active in the broadcasting world, contributing to MLB Network's studio programs, including their recent Hall of Fame election results coverage. His tenure with TBS spanned from 2021 to 2024, following his involvement with MLB Network since its inception in 2009.

For an impressive four decades, Costas was an integral part of NBC Sports' programming, gracing broadcasts in various capacities. He lent his voice to MLB games on NBC from 1982 to 1989, and again from 1994 to 2000. His iconic commentary included the 1995 World Series and, as the primary play-by-play announcer, the Fall Classics of 1997 and 1999.

The seasoned broadcaster is slated to make his debut as the host of NBC's revamped primetime MLB package on March 26. His first appearance will coincide with MLB's Opening Day primetime game, broadcast live from the historic Dodger Stadium. Reflecting on his return, Costas expressed his gratitude, stating, "While I deeply appreciate other facets of my professional journey, especially my time at HBO and the MLB Network, NBC has always been my true broadcasting home for 40 years. The network is rich with incredible moments, cherished memories, and enduring friendships. I am profoundly thankful to Rick Cordella and Sam Flood for extending this invitation to return in an emeritus capacity, allowing me to conclude my career where so much of it unfolded."

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to baseball broadcasting, Costas was honored with the Hall of Fame’s prestigious Ford Frick Award in 2018.

Bob Costas's return to NBC Sports is a testament to his enduring legacy and profound impact on sports journalism. It offers fans an opportunity to once again experience the insightful commentary and unparalleled professionalism that have defined his career. This move reinforces the timeless appeal of seasoned broadcasters and the powerful connection they forge with their audience. It reminds us that some voices, like Costas's, are simply synonymous with the sports they cover, and their presence elevates the viewing experience for everyone.
