A remarkable act of generosity has brought relief to six food pantries in Southwest Michigan, as they recently received over 28,800 pounds of nonperishable items. This substantial contribution was organized by the Kalamazoo Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with active participation from volunteers, missionaries, and community members. It all began when church headquarters announced plans to send a truckload of food supplies to the region, sparking an initiative led locally by communication director Katherine Atkinson.
The beneficiaries of this donation include food pantries associated with Westwood United Methodist Church, Milwood United Methodist Church, Gathering Harvest, Valley Family Church, Bread of Life Food Pantry/Catholic Charities, and Twelve Baskets. Ramona Cuzk, director of Twelve Baskets pantry, expressed immense gratitude, stating that the timing couldn't have been more perfect. On May 29, a team of dedicated individuals worked together to distribute the donated goods across these organizations, ensuring each pantry was well-stocked.
In a period where many households continue to grapple with food shortages, such efforts serve as a beacon of hope and compassion within the community. These actions not only alleviate immediate needs but also reinforce the spirit of unity and support among neighbors, reminding everyone of the power of collective effort in overcoming challenges.
