How Hunters Can Donate
Hunters who are successful in harvesting a deer have the opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause. They can bring their deer to one of the 34 certified deer processing shops across Ohio. Each donated deer plays a crucial role, as it provides approximately 50 pounds of venison, which is equivalent to about 200 meals. This generous donation goes directly to verified charitable organizations that offer essential food assistance.Hunters are not burdened with the cost of processing the venison when they choose to donate. It's a simple and meaningful way for them to give back to their community.
The process of finding the complete list of processors accepting donated deer is made easy through feedingthehungry.org. This platform serves as a valuable resource for hunters and those involved in the donation process.
Impact of the Partnership
During the 2023-24 deer hunting season, FHFH coordinated the processing of an impressive 1,157 deer donated by Ohio hunters. These donations were then distributed by 79 charitable organizations, reaching a wide range of individuals and families in need. The availability of this donated venison during the different hunting seasons is a significant boon. Ohio's deer archery hunting season remains open until Feb. 2, providing hunters with ample time to contribute. Statewide gun seasons occur from Dec. 2-8 and again from Dec. 21-22, while the muzzleloader season is from Jan. 4-7. This ensures that hunters have multiple opportunities to participate in the donation process.
Hunting licenses and deer permits are easily accessible through the HuntFish OH app, wildohio.gov, or at any license vendor. This makes it convenient for hunters to obtain the necessary permits and engage in this meaningful activity.
