A Community United in the Face of Tragedy

Early Morning Tragedy on I-95

The 49-year-old Endicott College Police sergeant, Jeremy Cole, lost his life while driving home on the early morning of Thanksgiving. A wrong-way driver heading south on I-95 in Newbury collided with his vehicle, resulting in a tragic accident. Police pronounced Cole dead at the scene. The driver, a man in his 40s from southeastern Massachusetts, was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and is expected to face charges at a later date.

This news came as a shock to the students when they received the notification from the school during the holiday. Ben Fridlington, a student at Endicott, expressed his initial disbelief, saying, "I didn't think it was real when I first saw it. It's hard to imagine the campus without him." Deanna Federico, another senior, added, "I was completely stunned and just dropped my phone and started crying."

Jeremy Cole - An Active Member of the Community

Both Ben and Deanna emphasized that Cole was an active and beloved member of the community. Federico, who is a student officer and worked shifts with Cole, described him as having a loud booming voice, making it easy to recognize his presence in a room. His friendly demeanor was known across campus.

From his home in NH, Ben Fridlington took it upon himself to start a GoFundMe for Cole's family. He explained, "Initially, it was just within our friend group, but soon it started getting shared more widely. It spread throughout the whole school and has now reached a significant amount. The GoFundMe (Fundraiser for Laura Cole by Benjamin Fridlington : Support for the Family of Jeremy Cole after Tragic Loss) is nearing $40,000, which is a testament to the outpouring of support from the community.

School's Response and Invitation

The school has taken steps to support the students and faculty in processing this tragic loss. In a letter, they invited all students and faculty to the Center at 9 am for coffee and tea. This provides an opportunity for everyone to come together and share their feelings.

This is a developing story, and more updates will be provided as information becomes available. In the meantime, the community remains united in their support for Jeremy Cole's family.
